Yu VP Award Granted to Two SEs

On Mar 27, the British Council successfully concluded its second Social Investment Platform (SIP) of the Social Enterprise Program. SIP this year has gathered 9 social investors, including Yu Venture Philanthropy Fund (Yu VP). Since its opening for application last September, the platform has attracted a total of 434 interested parties.

Among them 72 candidates indicated their interest in applying for funding from Yu VP. After the first-round screening of their business plans and the second-round phone interviews with shortlisted candidates, 6 out of 72 were selected to participate in face-to-face meeting with the core team of Yu VP. With full evaluation of each of the 6 social enterprises, from business model to impact, from team capacity to scale-up potential, Yu VP selected two finalists: Qianlin Baby (Beijing) Bio-Tech Co. Ltd and Yi Yun Social Innovation Center. They are expected to receive a total investment of RMB 1.5 million from Yu VP.

Introduction: Qianlin Baby (Beijing) Bio-Tech Co. Ltd

Qianlin was founded in 2011 by a group of parents who had children with phenylketonuria (PKU). The company is committed to providing low-protein diet for PKU children that are safe, nutritious, healthy, and affordable.

Qianlin strives for innovation. They have developed food with their own brand, mostly basic food including rice, flour, instant porridge, etc. Also Qianlin has gathered all food in the world they can possibly find that are suitable for PKU children. So far Qianlin has more than 200 kinds of products in 6 categories.

In the coming years, Qianlin plans to transit from agent to OEM and become a leading player in China’s low-protein dietary product industry by strengthening team capacity and expanding sales channels.

Introduction: Yi Yun Social Innovation Center

Founded in 2010, Yi Yun is committed to advancing philanthropic development and social innovation by leveraging the power of internet and big data. Yi Yun specializes in providing internet-based IT solutions to the charitable sector. In 2012, Yi Yun released “Yi Bo Charitable Advertising League” and subsequently, “Yi Yun Map” in 2013.

Yi Bo increases visibility of charitable projects through online ads. Yi Bo encourages existing promotional channels to donate spare spots online for advertising and allows charitable users to use them for free. Recently Yi Bo released a new function that connects charitable users with designers.

Yi Yun Map is China’s first platform for crowdsourcing map. Users can create themed maps online, such as kidnapped children and water pollution, etc. Then others can add relevant LBS information. These maps will help solve the problems with big data support and at the same time, increase civic participation in philanthropy.
